Tamil Genocide Monument inaugurated in Canada
The Tamil Genocide Memorial in Brampton serves as a poignant reminder of the struggles faced by the Tamil community, particularly in relation to the events during the Sri Lankan Civil War. Unveiled to honours the victims and raise awareness about the genocide, the memorial symbolises resilience and the ongoing fight for justice. It stands as a space for reflection, remembrance, and education, fostering a greater understanding of the historical context and the importance of human rights. This initiative highlights the significance of recognising and addressing past atrocities to ensure they are not forgotten.
A monument, described by organisers as commemorating Tamil civilians killed in the final stages of Sri Lanka’s civil war, was unveiled at Chinguacousy Park in Brampton, Canada on 10 May 2025 despite repeated prior objections from the Sri Lankan government.
